Retiree Email Service

SA国际传媒 is pleased to offer eligible non-emeriti faculty retirees and eligible staff retirees an email account ending in @retirees.scu.edu, hosted by Google. Use of the Retiree Email Service is governed by these terms of service.

Staff:

Eligible staff will be provided with information about how to sign up, as part of the exit-interview process.

Faculty:

Eligible faculty will be provided with information from the Provost's Office for how to sign up as their retirement date approaches.

The Retiree Email Service offers a subset of the service that SA国际传媒 provides to active faculty, staff, and students.

  • Retirees do not continue to use the account associated with their SA国际传媒 employment. A brand-new account is created for retirees, with a brand-new email address in this form:
    firstname.lastname@retirees.scu.edu
  • Retirees will have access to the following Google Workspace services:
    Contacts
    Email
  • Retirees are not included in SA国际传媒鈥檚 announcement or essentials email lists.
  • Retiree accounts use Google鈥檚 native authentication and . Accounts in the Retiree Email Service are not included in SA国际传媒鈥檚 single sign-on (SSO) service, or Duo.
  • Retiree accounts won鈥檛 appear in SA国际传媒鈥檚 Gmail Contacts Directory. Likewise, retirees won鈥檛 see SA国际传媒鈥檚 Contacts Directory.
  • Plug-ins and add-ons are not permitted.

Senior Lecturers and tenured faculty who, upon retirement, are awarded emeritus status, keep their scu.edu email account.

Senior Lecturers, Renewable Term Faculty, and tenured faculty who retire without emeritus status do not keep their scu.edu email account, but are eligible for a new account in the Retiree Email Service.

Faculty eligible for retirement are those with renewable-term and continuing appointments as defined in Faculty Handbook 3.1.2.1, after reaching the age of 55 and having completed ten years of service at the University (Faculty Handbook 3.5.1).

Google no longer provides free and unlimited storage to its customers in Higher Education. To minimize costs and support efforts, we provide retirees with access to Email and Contacts.

The account you use as an employee may contain University-related emails that include sensitive data that SA国际传媒 is required by law to protect. Because of this, you should not transfer University-related emails to any other account, including your Retiree Email account.

No, your SA国际传媒 account will be closed, and any messages sent to your SA国际传媒 account after that will bounce back to the sender.

The account you use as an employee may contain University-related documents that include sensitive data that SA国际传媒 is required by law to protect. Because of this, you should not transfer University-related documents to any other account.

To save personal (non-University-related) documents:

  • To preserve the Google Docs format, use a personal (non-SA国际传媒) Gmail account to save your personal documents. Your account in the Retiree Email Service does not include Drive.
  • You can also download files in PDF or Microsoft Office format.

You will still retain access to your Retiree Email account. In addition, your regular SA国际传媒 account will become active again, and it will be used as the primary email for University communications.

Once your Retiree Email account has been set up, you will receive a message -- sent to your non-SA国际传媒 alternate email address -- telling you that your account is set up and how to set the password. Be sure to set your password right away -- for security reasons, you will have 48 hours to set the password for your Retiree Email account.

Once you set the password for your Retiree Email account, you will see a prompt requiring you to enroll in two-factor authentication, which Google calls 鈥2-Step Verification.鈥 Be sure to enroll in 2SV right away -- for security reasons, you will have 7 days to enroll your account in 2SV.

To access your Retiree Email account:

  • On a smartphone, download the Gmail app from the or the .
  • On a computer, use the Chrome browser to access the .

The Retiree Email Service does not use SSO. To sign in, use your email address (something like bucky.bronco@retirees.scu.edu), the password you set, and the 2-Step Verification method you set up.

To ensure better email security for everyone at SA国际传媒, these access methods are not permitted:

  • email forwarding
  • less-secure legacy email protocols (like POP and IMAP)
  • email applications that require you to store a password on your computer

To transfer contacts from your SA国际传媒 account to your Retiree Email account, first export your SA国际传媒 contacts to a file, then import the file into your Retiree Email contacts.

You will only be able to export and import contacts you鈥檝e added to your SA国际传媒 account. You won鈥檛 be able to download contacts from the central SA国际传媒 directory.

To export your contacts:

  1. Connect to your SA国际传媒 Google Workspace account.
  2. Follow these instructions from Google to export your contacts:

Participants in the Retiree Email Service may use their accounts to subscribe to the Faculty or Staff Announcement groups.

To subscribe, please contact the Technology Help Desk and mention that you are an SA国际传媒 retiree who wants to join the Announcement group using your Retiree Email account.
