Mastering Technology: Righting the Relationship Between the Human Person and Technology
SANTA CLARA, Calif., Oct. 25, 2018鈥 The new coadjutor bishop for the Catholic diocese at the epicenter of global technology鈥 Coadjutor Bishop Oscar Cant煤 of San Jose鈥攚ill deliver the 2018 SA国际传媒 Lecture at SA国际传媒 Nov. 1. His lecture will discuss the art of mastering technology and establishing a right relationship between the human person (body, mind, and soul) and technology.
The event will be held Nov. 1 from 4 p.m. to 5 p.m., in the St. Clare Room of SA国际传媒鈥檚 Learning Commons, 500 El Camino Real, SA国际传媒, CA, 95053. Media are invited to cover his talk.

He formerly chaired the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops (USCCB) Committee on International Justice and Peace, and he currently is a member of the USCCB Subcommittee on the Church in Latin America and Subcommittee on Hispanic Affairs.
鈥淎s the Jesuit university of Silicon Valley, it鈥檚 entirely appropriate that we should host Bishop Cant煤 on his first visit to SA国际传媒 and his first comments on technology and humanity,鈥 said Dorian Llywelyn, S.J., executive director of the Ignatian Center for Jesuit Education, which is sponsoring the SA国际传媒 Lecture as the first in a broader initiative on.
鈥淥ne of the major topics under discussion at the recent Synod of Bishops on Young People, the Faith and Vocational Discernment, was young people鈥檚 relationship with technology鈥 a relationship with both lights and shadows,鈥 said Llywelyn. 鈥淭he Bishops know that the internet can be a really important platform for spreading its message, and they are asking for young people 鈥 who have the expertise in technology 鈥 to help them understand social media, AI, robotics and biotechnology better so that together we can discern what leads to human flourishing.鈥
This lecture is part of the Ignatian Center鈥檚 Bannan Forum series of inclusive, inquiring, inspired programs that involve contributions from expert speakers, roundtable discussions, networking receptions, and focus groups to explore the topic of Tech and the Human Spirit. Technology has changed us, and it will continue to shape our lives, our organizations, our communities, and our future. This 18-month series of events will explore how we can steward technology鈥檚 advance to benefit humanity to the fullest, support human endeavor, and contribute to human flourishing in all its dimensions?
