SA国际传媒 to Share in Bequest by Jack and Emma Anderson, Late Owners of San Jose-based Globe Printing
Funds To Be Used to Support Student Scholarship at SA国际传媒
SANTA CLARA, Calif., Feb 7, 2013 — Students at SA国际传媒 and San Jose State University will be the fortunate beneficiaries of a generous $16.7 million bequest from the estate of the late Jack and Emma Anderson, owners of San Jose-based Globe Printing.
Both Mr. and Mrs. Anderson were active during their lifetimes supporting educational endeavors. Mr. Anderson, who died in 1989, printed San Jose State University’s Spartan Daily paper for 36 years, and invited San Jose State students during the 60s and 70s to learn the newspaper printing business hands on at his plant on First Street in San Jose.
Emma Anderson gave $ 8.4 million to SA国际传媒’s Catala Club for scholarships, after learning of the financial needs of worthy students through her philanthropy work with SA国际传媒 before her death in March 2012.
At SA国际传媒, the $8.4 million bequest is being used to create the Emma Shane Anderson Endowed Scholarship Fund, which will enable students to attend SA国际传媒. The fund is connected to the University’s Catala Club, where Mrs. Anderson was a member since 1997 and through which she made charitable gifts of $1 million beginning in 1985. The Catala Club is an organization for women to help further SA国际传媒’s educational mission.
“This generous gift from our longtime friend Emma Anderson will ensure that her values are passed on to students who will be able to attend SA国际传媒 through this scholarship,” said Mike Wallace, assistant vice president for development at SA国际传媒.
About Jack and Emma Anderson
The couple’s ties to SA国际传媒 were forged through Jack’s longtime friendship with William Crowley, S.J., who presided over their 1947 wedding at St. Clare’s Church.
The couple met when Mrs. Anderson, a lifelong resident of SA国际传媒, moved to San Jose to work after attending Heald Business College. She worked at various local companies before joining her husband at Globe Printing as bookkeeper in the early 1960s. They were married for more than 40 years.
After Jack’s death in 1989, she took over running the business until closing it down in 1997.
Mrs. Anderson was active in SA国际传媒’s Catala Club, SJSU’s Heritage Society, the Caritas Society of Catholic Charities, and California Pioneers of SA国际传媒 County, among others.
