SA¹ú¼Ê´«Ã½

Each quarter of the academic year, our community partner agencies and schools will be inviting SA¹ú¼Ê´«Ã½ students to serve as: tutors for young children; advocates for educational, economic and racial justice; educators for sustainable gardening techniques, and more. So get ready to fulfill your ELSJ Core requirement by joining community members who are on the ground working for positive change. 

Fall Quarter 2026

Week before Week 1 of Fall Quarter

There are two steps to the registration process for your community engagement opportunity with the Arrupe Engagement Program. These steps will be shared with students on Wednesday, 9/16/2026,  in an email titled “Action Required - Arrupe Engagement Registration.” This email will reach students from the email address arrupe@scu.edu. Students may also find this information on their CBL/ELSJ class Camino Page information. Reach out to your professor for assistance finding this information on the Camino page. For questions about the registration process, please email the Arrupe Engagement Team at arrupe@scu.edu.

Week 1 of Fall Quarter 

Follow the instructions listed on the email you received titled “Action Required - Arrupe Engagement Registration” to complete the two steps of the registration process. These steps may also be found on your CBL/ELSJ class Camino page. If students are interested in speaking with an Arrupe Engagement Team member during Week 1 of the Fall quarter, students may email arrupe@scu.edu or drop in to Arrupe Registration during the following dates and times: 

• Wednesday | September 23, 2026 | 9:30 AM - 12 Noon and 1 - 4 PM | Nobili Dining Room (Closed 12 Noon - 1 PM)
• Thursday | September 24, 2026 | 9:30 AM - 12 Noon and 1 - 4 PM | Nobili Dining Room (Closed 12 Noon - 1 PM)

All students must be registered to engage with a community engagement organization by the end of Week 1. Contact arrupe@scu.edu with questions.

There will be NO REGISTRATION after Tuesday, September 29, 2026 - No exceptions.

Please keep in mind that you are responsible for arranging transportation to and from your placement. Explore your transportation options (e.g. walk, bike, bus, personal vehicle, carpool, etc). For students in an ELSJ Class ONLY - Transportation support is available. You can submit a request for this resource by completing  We do not want transportation to be a limiting factor for students when they select a placement, so please ask if you need assistance! The submissions will be reviewed and approved based on expressed need. Completing this form does not guarantee transportation support. You will be contacted by someone in the Office of Undergraduate Studies if you are granted or denied transportation support. If you have any questions regarding transportation to and from your ELSJ community engagement placement, please email ugradstudies@scu.edu.

Week 2 of Fall Quarter

During Week 2 students should complete the following:

• Students are expected to attend two orientations: one Arrupe Engagement Formation Meeting AND an orientation hosted by your community engagement site. Instructions for how to complete these orientations will be shared with students when their registration is confirmed.
• Complete and submit all requirements as described in the registration confirmation email for community placement.
• All requirements need to be completed and submitted no later than the end of Week 2. Requirements differ by placement, but can include Tuberculosis (TB) testing, fingerprinting/background checks, specific training, and more.

Week 3 of Fall Quarter 

After you have attended the mandatory orientations and have completed and submitted the community placement requirements, you are ready to get started working with your community placement! You should begin with your community placement no later than the start of Week 3. If you start sooner than this, that is wonderful!

Arrupe Engagement Refection Hours

Arrupe Engagement Student Assistant Reflection Hours take place from Week 5-10. Reflection hours can be used to make up missed community engagement, for up to 2 hours. The schedule for Fall quarter is as follows:

• Claire Hong | Wednesdays | 2 - 3PM
• Meredith Boyd | Thursdays | 4 - 5PM

Transportation

We do not want transportation to limit students from selecting a placement that they’re interested in. We have Clipper Cards available for students who request it and are participating in an Arrupe Engagement placement. There is also a Lyft Pass Program, offered by the Office of Undergraduate Studies. The Lyft Program is only available to individual students completing their ELSJ Core Requirement, and is limited to use during one quarter for each individual student. Please apply by completing this Google Form.

We are unable to offer reimbursements of any kind, and do not offer support for gas. Outside of the support outlined above, students are responsible for providing their own transportation and covering the associated fees.

Accommodation Requests: We recommend that students who may require accommodations reach out to Marisol Chavez and Gabriela Hamm at arrupe@scu.edu for a conversation as early as possible. We want to make sure every student has the experience that works best for them and are happy to meet to discuss options one-on-one.
