  • Immigration law is complicated. What seems like a basic case can have problems that are hard to detect unless you understand the law completely. A lawyer can analyze your options, discuss risks, and may suggest better immigration options for you.
  • Examples of Questions to Ask When Contacting Immigration Attorneys:
    • What is your experience practicing immigration law?
    • What are your areas of expertise in immigration law?
    • What is your experience with cases similar to mine?
    • What kind of outcomes do you obtain for your clients?
    • How much do you charge and is it on a flat fee or hourly rate, and are there any other costs associated with my case? Do you have a payment plan?
    • Who else would be working on my case?
    • What procedures and actions will be undertaken on my behalf? What paperwork will be completed, will you attend any hearings?
    • What is your opinion about my case, the potential risks, and what are my prospects for success? What is the best strategy for my case?
    • How will we communicate and how often?
    • What are the next steps if I hire you? Will you send me an engagement contract? 
  • If you are concerned about cost, ask several lawyers how much they charge. Some have payment plans, financing options, and ways to divide the work up so it will cost less. 
  • Think about your situation for a few minutes. Write down the basic facts of your case to help you explain your situation clearly.
